Laurel Rossnagel

Saskatchewan Representational Artist

Laurel was born and raised on a mixed farm along the edge of the Qu'Appelle Valley twenty-five miles west of Lumsden, Saskatchewan.

She attributes her prairie roots and farm upbringing for strength of observation, as well as her success in developing a reputation as a representational artist of prairie landscape, buildings, flora and fauna. Laurel has always had an interest in learning through personal trial and error thus is basically a self-taught artist.

One of her favorite pastimes is walking in natural prairie and woodlands, watching the changing seasons, the animals and plants, and the diversity of the landscape. Thus her artwork depicts the serenity and sometimes complexity of the natural environment.

Laurel's husband is Dr. Brian Rossnagel, Professor and Barley and Oat Breeder at the University of Saskatchewan. Through Brian's work she continues to be connected with agriculture. With Brian, she has been fortunate to travel throughout the Province, Canada and internationally taking photographs from those experiences for future inspiration.

Over the past decade, Laurel has completed numerous commissioned pieces and held over twenty solo exhibitions. Travelling has influenced her work and she has sold artwork locally, nationally and internationally. Laurel enjoys supporting charity fundraisers in Saskatchewan. You can see her work at their home, on her website, at Collector's Choice Art Gallery in Saskatoon or Grasslands Gallery in Val Marie, Sask.

In July 2006, Laurel retired from the University of Saskatchewan to concentrate on her art. Since then, her medium has been acrylic and paints mainly landscapes, flora and fauna.
